동지 여러분, 한국에서 쌀을 수호하기 위한 여성들의 투쟁에 비아깜페시나가 연대의 인사를 보냅니다.
여성은 세계화 과정에서 가장 큰 피해를 입는 집단입니다. 농민으로서 여성은 우리나라에 덤핑되는 보조금을 받은 값싼 수입농산물로 생존권을 잃고 있습니다.
그 결과 여성농민은 보다 긴 시간 동안 더 많은 일을 해야 하며, 투입물(?) 가격의 인상으로 더 높아진 생산비용을 감수해야 합니다. 이 모든 요소는 농촌 여성의 빈곤, 이주와 배고픔을 악화시키고 있습니다. 2004년은 유엔이 지정한 쌀의 해입니다.
아시아 모든 국가가 그렇지만 쌀은 우리의 주식입니다. 이것이 바로 우리의 역설적 상황입니다. 농민은 민중을 위해 식량을 생산해야 하지만 농촌에서 살아가는 농민은 식량을 생산할 땅이 부족하고 먹을 식량이 부족합니다.
세계식량기구조차 세계 기아를 해소하는 데 유전자조작식품을 사용해야 한다는 데 지지를 보내고 있는 실정입니다. 이것은 식량주권을 수호하고자 하는 우리에게 심한 모욕일 뿐입니다.
비아깜페시나는 우리의 식량주권을 사수하기 위해 계속 투쟁할 것이며, 이를 위해 한국에서 투쟁하는 여러분과 우리는 함께 하고 있습니다.

Dear Friends, Please receive the solidarity message from Via Campesina to support the struggle of the women to protect the domestic rice in South Korea. Women are the worst victims of the globalisation process.
As a peasant, a woman faces loss of livelihood as subsidised imported food products are dumped into our country, woman peasants then have to work longer and harder, and are faced with increased cost of food production as a result of costlier inputs. All these factors are intensifying rural women’s impoverishment, displacement and hunger. Year 2004 mentioned by UN as the year of the rice.
As for the Asian countries rice is our main food. This is irony; peasant is produce food for the people but peasants who lived in the countryside do not have enough land to grow food and enough food to eat. Even FAO had released her annual report supporting the idea that genetic engineering (GMO) would help to resolve the problem of world hunger. This is a slap in the face of those who defend food sovereignty. As Via Campesina, we are continuing struggling to achieve our food sovereignty and together with you in South Korea we are fighting for that. Globalise struggle!
